Controlul Statelor Unite asupra datelor bancare amenință independența financiară a Europei

Fostul prim-ministru italian, Enrico Letta, a atras atenția asupra riscurilor pe care le prezintă controlul Statelor Unite asupra datelor financiare ale cetățenilor europeni. Acesta a susținut că această situație ar putea transforma Uniunea Europeană într-o "colonie financiară" a SUA. Avertismentul său a fost prezentat în cadrul unui eveniment organizat de Bruegel, un think-tank politic din Bruxelles, și relatat de Euractiv.

Letta a comentat că raportul său recent, care se concentrează pe piața unică europeană, ar putea avea un impact semnificativ asupra deciziilor politice ale viitoarei Comisii Europene. El a subliniat că, dacă statele membre nu vor renunța la controlul asupra sectorului bancar național pentru a permite o piață transfrontalieră europeană, subordonarea financiară a Europei față de SUA ar putea să se amplifice.

"Cred că devenim din ce în ce mai mult o colonie din punct de vedere financiar", a afirmat Letta, subliniind faptul că aceasta ar putea afecta nu numai economia Europei, ci și independența politică a statelor membre. Această situație necesită o reacție rapidă din partea instituțiilor europene pentru a asigura o mai bună protecție a datelor financiare ale cetățenilor europeni.
